Recreational pottery classes. Fairview studios is a long-established recreational pottery studio located just off Blackfoot Trail and 58th Avenue. Intake is ongoing; classes are offered six times per week. Student fees cover 1 class per week for four weeks and up to 60 hours of open studio time per week.
Dave Settles is the studio's chief story-teller, kiln manager, glaze guru, and potter extraordinaire. A patient instructor and inspiring support, Dave is a daily presence in the studio, and always has an anecdote, advice, and some pithy insight. A potter since 1962, Dave's resume is impressive. He has led series and seminars at ACAD and Red Deer College and has made pottery for untold numbers of collectors and buyers.
Among his many achievements, Dave counts having pottery commissioned by former Canadian prime minister, Brian Mulroney, who gifted one of the pieces to the then German Chancellor Kohl. Dave's work has been gifted to dignitaries and VIPs around the world including the Foreign Minister of Mozambique, the Foreign Minister of Ivory Coast, The foreign Minister of Zambia, and the President of Bangladesh.
His work has been included in juried shows internationally, and he has hosted shows and worksh0ps for students in Greece, Ireland, Hungary, New Zealand, and South America. Dave is allergic to bragging about himself.
